Alternative Education Teacher Aide
Teacher Aide - Alternative Education Christchurch
This is a part-time role of 15 hours per week (Monday to Friday 9am to 12pm) during school term time.
This position offers a flexible start date and will conclude on 9 December 2025. There is the potential for this role to be extended into 2026.
Alternative Education is a Ministry of Education initiative where we place and support disengaged students aged 13-16 years old into our AE provider schools. There is a large emphasis on progressing their learning as well as supporting students to re-engage in their education and make clear plans for their futures.
You will be working within a small team of five, facilitated through Cashmere High School but based in the city and working in 5 Alternative Education Providers in Christchurch.
In this role your key tasks are:
- To provide support for the five Alternative Education (AE) Providers within the programme setting. This can be working with students one-to-one or in small groups using resources that have been collated and prepared by the AE providers.
- To administer the Literacy and Numeracy Diagnostic, Formative and Summative assessment (PROBE, IKAN/JAM/GLOSS, and writing sample)
- To mark and record the above assessment in the AE Database and share the assessment results with the AE provider
- To relieve, where necessary, when and AE provider has indicated that the limited staffing will impact on the continuation of their programme.
- To work with the Pedagogical Leader to support other initiatives within the AE setting/AE Providers programmes
We are looking for an applicant who can be a team player, be flexible within the working environment and is empathetic to the needs of disengaged young people. Applicants should have experience working one-to-one and in small groups, administering literacy and numeracy diagnostic, formative and summative assessment. An understanding of entering data onto a database would be beneficial.
